According to a recent study, nurses are at increased risk for suicide. Using federal data, researchers compared suicide rates among nurses and the U.S. population between 2005 and 2016. They found that the suicide rate among female and male nurses was significantly higher than in the general female and male population. These findings suggest suicide prevention efforts are needed to “support nurses with pain management and mental health issues,” said study co-author Dr. Sidney Zisook, a psychiatry professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine.
