Efforts are underway to address the mental health of Canadian farmers. At a recent FarmTech conference in Alberta, a panel on mental health encouraged attendees to talk openly about the challenges they face. The panel also marked the launch of the Do More Agriculture Foundation, which aims to support the mental health of Canadian farmers. In its first year, the foundation plans to start an educational campaign, provide resources to the farming community, and partner with mental health professionals on training efforts. Foundation cofounder Lesley Kelly said that she and her husband prioritize mental health on their farm. “We ensure that not just physical health but mental health comes first and foremost,” she explained. “This should be as important as any business aspect. It does affect your bottom line, because it’s impacting your farm if you’re suffering.”
