CALIFORNIA: The Plan to Get Women Vets to Use More Health Services
December 15, 2017
A new outreach program in Los Angeles County aims to connect women veterans with mental health services. Women Vets on Point was developed by Education Development Center in partnership with the nonprofit U.S. Vets. Designed to meet the specific needs of female veterans, the program will address barriers to health care by making community-based resources more accessible. A “one-stop-shop” website will list local mental health care, substance abuse treatment, and childcare services, in addition to career development and educational resources. The program is also partnering with organizations that serve veterans and offering grants to help them tailor their resources for women. After it is piloted in Los Angeles County, developers hope to expand the program nationwide.
