How Talking about Suicide Can Give People Something to Live for

Peer support services are helping some who have struggled with suicide to feel less alone. Services such as peer support groups bring together people who have navigated similar challenges with suicide or mental health issues. These groups can provide a safe space to talk about experiences that family and friends may not understand. “I think people assume that if you’ve struggled with suicide, you’re fragile,” said Jess Stohlmann-Rainey, director of program development for Colorado’s crisis and peer support lines at Rocky Mountain Crisis Partners. “But if you’ve gone through this and you’re still here, then you must be really strong.”
