Making the Connections

On February 22, 2016, SPRC Director Jerry Reed joined former U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher and former U.S. Representative Patrick Kennedy at an EDC-sponsored forum in Washington D.C. to address the connections among mental health, substance abuse, and suicide prevention. Jerry Reed credits Dr. Satcher and Mr. Kennedy as being in the forefront of recognizing the links among those behavioral health issues. The three men co-authored a recent op-ed piece on what is needed “to ensure that all Americans have the opportunities they need for full health and recovery.” Jerry Reed expanded on the relationships among mental health, substance abuse, and suicide in an interview published as part of EDC’s Issues & Insights series.
