OREGON: HOPE, HEALTH, AND HEALING: Key Stakeholders Convene on Suicide Postvention Plan
June 28, 2019
Community members in Columbia County recently received training in suicide postvention. The four-day session focused on how to develop a coordinated response to a suicide death that promotes healing and reduces risk in the community. It covered 15 key ingredients to effective postvention, such as promoting safe messaging, supporting loss survivors, and preventing the spread of suicide risk among young people. Funded by the Oregon Health Authority, the training was led by the National Alliance on Mental Illness New Hampshire’s Connect program. Attendees will now be able to train other community members involved in postvention and will “be the champions in the larger field to help people move forward,” according to trainer Ann Duckless.
