WALES: North Wales Suicide Prevention Action Plan Launched
March 16, 2018
North Wales is launching a three-year plan for preventing suicide and self-harm in the region. It focuses on groups at risk, including middle-aged men, vulnerable youth, those with a history of self-harm, and adults 75 and older who have depression and physical illness. The plan also aims to support individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, provide training to professionals who have contact with those at risk, and improve data on suicide and self-harm. Several groups helped develop the plan, including Public Health Wales, the health board, North Wales Police, and suicide prevention organization Samaritans. Gwenllian Parry, chairperson of the North Wales Suicide and Self-Harm Prevention Group, said, “No single organization can reduce suicide and self-harm by themselves, and it will require a dedicated long-term focus and a commitment to continue to work together.”
