About This Module
Prevention planning starts with establishing partnerships, creating or revising crisis protocols, and preparing for an increase in the demand for mental health services. Once these supports are in place, your college or university will be ready for suicide prevention programs and trainings.
It’s important to note that one program or training is not enough. Preventing suicide requires a comprehensive approach—a combination of strategies that establish crisis protocols, identity students at risk, increase their help-seeking behavior, promote their social networks, develop their life skills, restrict their access to lethal means, and provide appropriate and timely mental health services.
Planning the right combination of strategies that are a good fit for your campus will be the most effective way to prevent suicide among your students.
In this award-winning module, you can explore the steps involved in prevention planning, and some questions and challenges you might face.
A downloadable text version (PDF) of all module content is available.
